INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE WORKSHOPS
A 2-day workshop ~ 12 ce NCBTMB certificate
I discovered Indian Head Massage (IHM) in 2006. I was drawn to the simplicity of a chair massage with its deeply meditative state of inner healing. When the class ended, I was excited to share with everyone who wanted relief from their upper body tension. I quickly implemented this modality into my hospice patient's treatment plan to help ease anxiety and acute pain, as well as my clientele.
My background teaching experience at A Gathering Place inspired me to share this unique modality with other therapists so I decided to spread the word by teaching continuing education workshops. I became an approved provider by the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) in 2009.
Participants in Indian Head Massage Workshops will learn a 45 minute session and leave with the ability to share it with their clients right away. In the workshop, we embrace this healing tradition and experience its peacefulness with nurturing whole body mindfulness, feel revitalized and rested. We blend training with receiving and giving while experiencing this unique massage with each other. You will leave feeling replenished.
Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:
* Perform an Indian Head Massage routine session
* State the benefits, effects and advantages
* Identify indications and contraindications
Receive 12 ce certificate when class is completed.
Workshops are open to massage therapists who are trained and licensed as massage therapist and hold a current valid license to practice massage therapy or currently enrolled in massage school.
The class is approved by the National Certification Board of Therapeutic Bodywork and Massage NCBTMB Approved Provider # 451093-009

Indian Head Workshop with Sound Bath at Garden of Common Ground
12 ce NCBTMB Certificate
This 2-day Indian Head Massage Workshop is being held at Garden of Common Ground in St. Peters, Missouri.
Misty, the owner, created the sacred sound studio with an intention of gathering people together to use sound to develop inner relationship with their inner self and inspiring others to walk their journey of self-love.
8:00 am - 8:30 am Saturday To begin our weekend, we will gather in a circle to start the day with a short intention ceremony. Using sacred sound tools, we will tune into our breathing, bringing our awareness to the present moment, creating an intention to activate our Inner Healer for our workshop.
9:00 am - 4:00 pm Saturday We will begin our Indian Head Massage Workshop learning the effects, benefits and advantages of this unique modality. We will learn how to release tension in the upper body where most of the tension is found. We will break for lunch between 12:00 and 1:00.
9:00 am - 4:00 pm Sunday On our second day, we continue to learn Indian Head Massage routine with a hands-on experience with the intention of feeling comfortable and confident to share with our clients. We will end our training with a 12 ce certificate of completion.
4:00 pm - 5:00 pm Sunday At the end of the training, we will begin our Sound Bath into a deep receiving mode as we lie down on comfortable cushions and receive a cellular massage from the gentle sounds of Crystal Tones Singing Bowls. The binaural beats capture the attention of the mind, quieting mental chatter. The primal call of the gong will invite the awareness into depths of our physical body. Be lulled into deep relaxation as the result of a cosmic chorus of sound. As the sound winds down, we will enjoy the beauty of silence for a few moments. At the end of the Sound Bath, we will have a small circle sharing ceremony to end the weekend.
Workshops are open to massage therapists who are trained and licensed as massage therapist and hold a current valid license to practice massage therapy or currently enrolled in massage school.

WHAT IS INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE ?
Indian Head Massage is based on an ancient healing system of Ayurveda, which means “knowledge of life”. It is a natural approach to strengthening the body’s healing abilities and bringing balance to the mind, body and spirit.
In India, this head massage is a rich tradition that has been passed down through generations. This collection of nutrition, movement and thought is practiced from birth through old age. In a barber shop in India, it’s common to receive a brisk scalp massage with oils while getting a haircut. It’s tradition for a newborn to receive a massage at birth or a bride and groom to receive a nurturing scalp treatment from an elder before their marriage ceremony.
When these practices became Westernized, the upper body was included with the head massage to help ease a variety of stress conditions and relieve muscular tension.
Typically, an Indian Head Massage session is 30 - 45 minutes long and is given in a simple armless chair. Clients need not undress, so it is suitable for anyone new to massage who might be a bit apprehensive. Each session starts by relaxing the back, then the shoulders, arms, neck, face, and scalp to help ease everyday stress.
Indian Head Massage also includes activating pressure points on the forehead and around the eye sockets to relax and sooth tense muscles and eye strain. Working on the cheekbone can also relieve blocked sinuses.
Indian Head Massage is a deeply relaxing massage for tired, achy muscles that calms the mind and brings the body into harmony..
Workshops are open to massage therapists who are trained and licensed as massage therapist and hold a current valid license to practice massage therapy or currently enrolled in massage school.
