This Amazing Thing Happened
I want to share with you this incredible thing that happened in my workshop.
That workshop was beyond the energy of spirituality, it was truly an experience. Let me explain.
A few days before the workshop, a massage therapist contacted me and wanted to see a video of Indian Head Massage. I explained I that I do not have a video.
“Wait a minute,” I thought about it. “I have a workshop coming up, so why don’t you just come by and you could be my model! You’ll see then what’s it like.”
“I can’t come on Saturday but I’ll come on Sunday morning.”
“Great, see you then.”
By the time she came on Sunday, we already learned most of the routine on Saturday, so it was time to show my students the whole routine, you know, putting it altogether. I love to demonstrate on someone who has never had this massage. The students can experience firsthand the before-and-after look on their face. It really encompasses the whole idea of the spirit of this massage.
Just before we got started, the students were insisting, “Video it!” And I agreed.
Interesting enough, I hadn’t paid any attention to the phones recording it. Any other time, I felt self-conscious but this time, it felt like I was walking into a grounding, spiritual zone.
She sat down. I laid my hands on her shoulders. I sensed there was really something different about this massage. We synchronicity connected our energies on a deep level. I settled in.
I noticed her energy started to move throughout her body when her hand gently twitched. A rise of emotion began when I moved her head left to right, encouraging flexibility, but this time, it released the tension in her neck. I cradled her head and began to rock her gently. I held her and both of us shed tears.
The session ended.
We needed the space to release these emotions so I whispered, “Let’s go outside.”
We swiftly walked out the back door, sat down, leaned in closer, and gasped, “What just happened!” We giggled and with a deep breath, releasing it in the open air, we walked back inside.
A student said all the students had a tearful moment when our demonstration ended.
I cannot explain it. It was amazing. I did my best to do the pillows and the chairs, tray tables, clearing all the room. It was magical.
I believe massage therapists begin this journey to help heal others and really, to bring the light and the love to help heal the world. When we surrender the outcome, that’s when the spirituality brings the greater good. I’d love to know what your thoughts are when you massage someone.
What I know for sure is, teaching Indian Head Massage is my passion. I do my best to prepare but I let go of the outcome. I believe people more than ever need the power of touch and we can reach them using a simple folding chair.
So tell me, how does a massage impact your life?
I would love, love, love to hear from you!
